HEROS has been involved in the city of Toronto since 2005. With a primary focus on the high-risk communities of Regent Park and the Jane and Finch, HEROS is providing hockey opportunities to girls and boys from various diverse ethnic backgrounds. Regent Park consists of many children from African backgrounds and the Jane and Finch is an area that consists of predominantly Caribbean background girls and boys. These two communities share the struggle of dealing with gangs, drugs and violence. HEROS is making a positive difference in both communities. The HEROS hockey program has been a huge success in our community. Our local elementary schools have benefitted from the program. It is easy to identify those students who are previous HEROS players. Now it's time to fill a void and offer the program to our junior high students. The HEROS program is a perfect fit. Our students are excited and engaged, and we are looking forward to a successful year.
