meaghan.mikkelson2Born on January 4, 1985 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Meaghan grew up playing minor hockey in St. Albert, Albert. After graduating from St. Albert Catholic High School, Meaghan attended the Univeristy of Wisconsin on a full athletic scholarship — winning two NCAA Division I National Championships in 2006 and 2007. In her senior year at Wisconsin, Meaghan lead all defenseman in the NCAA in scoring, was named a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Top 10 Finalist, an NCAA first-team All American and WCHA Defensive Player of the Year. After graduating from the UW with a degree in business (major in marketing), Meaghan played for the Edmonton Chimos of the WWHL from 2007 to 2009, and was named the WWHL’s Most Valuable Defenseman for the 2008-2009 season. Meaghan is currently enjoying her sixth season with the Canadian National Women’s Hockey Team, winning three silver medals at the IIHF World Women’s Championships in 2008, 2009 and 2011; one gold medal at the IIHF World Women’s Championships in 2012; and a gold medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. At the 2011 IIHF Women’s World Championships, Meaghan was named the Most Valuable Defenseman. She currently resides in Calgary with her husband Scott, a retired professional goaltender, and plays for the Alberta team in the CWHL.
