Based on the success of the inaugural Super HEROS season in Calgary and with the help of our partners The Sutter Fund, The Flames Foundation, Hockey Alberta, Canadian Tire Jumpstart ParaSport, and our newest partner True North Orthodontics we are excited to announce that the Calgary Super HEROS chapter will return for 2019/20 and next season we will be adding a second hour of programming to serve an additional 24 players! Our Super HEROS will join more than 800 other HEROS players across Canada wearing the same HEROS jersey, knowing that they are part of a team from across Canada.

“Our very first program in Calgary opened in 2006, and since that time Calgary has become the city with the highest number of HEROS programs across Canada. For 2019/20 we expect more than 170 players to wear the HEROS jersey each week of the season, including our newest Super HEROS.  This gives us the opportunity to bring all of our Calgary HEROS together, sharing the ice and ensuring that our game is inclusive. Prior to Super HEROS, there haven’t been any options like this in Western Canada, and we are honored to be able to provide this opportunity.” – Norm Flynn, HEROS Founder

As part of the Canadian Adapted Hockey Alliance, we are committed to creating opportunities for children & youth living with developmental, cognitive & physical disabilities to develop their strength, hockey skills, sportsmanship and life skills while deepening their love of the game and their team. The first season allowed HEROS to learn a lot about how hockey can be adapted to provide an amazing sport experience for young people living with cognitive and/or physical challenges.

Program Information:

  • Each hour session will have availability for 24 boys & girls ages 7-17 living with cognitive & physical challenges
  • The season will run Sunday mornings, September 22 to March 15
  • All equipment will be provided free of charge
  • There are no fees to take part

We would like to express our deepest thanks to chapter partners Canadian Tire Jumpstart ParaSport, Hockey Calgary, Autism Asperger’s Friendship Society, and Ups & Downs Calgary for their help in launching and growing the program in Calgary.
