Tuesday, November 25, 2014Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen and captain Kenton Helgesen are proud to announce details on a new community program, Helgy’s Heroes presented by MEG Energy. The initiative will provide low income families with tickets to attend a Hitmen home game, custom t-shirts and Scotiabank Saddledome concession vouchers. Following the game, the Helgy’s Heroes guests will meet the Hitmen captain for photos and autographs. “I am honoured to be selected to lead this rewarding program on behalf of my teammates,” said Helgesen. “It’s exciting to be part of an initiative that supports youth and teaches them many of the valuable life lessons I’ve been fortunate to learn while playing hockey.” Guests of the program, which will operate on 12 game nights this season, will be selected from Hockey Education Reaching Out Society (HEROS). “We are so excited that the Calgary Hitmen have asked HEROS to be a part of this new program” said Norm Flynn, Executive Director of HEROS. “We’ve enjoyed such a great relationship with the Calgary Flames Foundation for Life and this opportunity to engage our participants and their families is such a great way to reward them for all of their hard work both on and off the ice.” “We are thrilled to partner with the Calgary Hitmen on Helgy’s Heroes,” said Tara McCool, Director, Community Investment & Communications for MEG Energy. “We are happy to help more families enjoy the incredible energy at the Saddledome for the Hitmen games – it’s a great community experience!” Helgesen and the Hitmen return to action Wednesday night at home against the Prince Albert Raiders.
